High Street Therapy Associates is a long-established practice in a neighborhood setting in Amherst. The therapists, a married couple, have been meeting the needs of the community for over 20 years, learning and adapting techniques to bring peace of mind, empowerment and self-actualization to their clients.
They provide counseling to individuals, couples, families, and groups. Individual therapy is conducted on a one-to-one basis. Groups usually meet with one therapist, while couples and families typically meet with two therapists. Psychotherapy supervision for other therapists is also provided.
They offer psychotherapy to individuals using Bioenergetic Analysis, a body-oriented psychoanalysis, and Relational Analysis, an approach centered on the relationship between the client and therapist. They also offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a powerful method of psychotherapy that has helped an estimated two million people of all ages relieve many types of psychological distress. Work is not limited to these three approaches. Methods are adapted to the individual needs of each client. Artists, musicians, and writers have found the practice particularly helpful and over time many creative people have used the services provided. Counseling is available to help people considering a career change, or having work-related problems.
Couple and family work involves understanding the system of which the couple or family is a part, and how any problems have been maintained in the system.
Currently two groups are offered. A Bioenergetic therapy group meeting once per week, and a ten-week seminar on overcoming self-defeating behavior.
The therapists are experienced in working with people on many issues, including depression, anxiety, life transitions, eating disorders, relationship and family difficulties, as well as other common problems. The relationship with the therapist offers stability in the face of change. As the work continues, people can begin to see improvement in attitude, relationships, and self-esteem. Confidence can increase, and people can feel more in control of their lives.
New clients and referrals are always welcome.
